There are some who bother the mothers-to-be about the exact number of weeks/months of their pregnancy; then there are those prospective mothers who love to estimate their due. Whatever be the case, here’s how to calculate your pregnancy in either weeks or months:

So, How Long Have You Been Pregnant?

Usually, a pregnancy is 40 weeks long and it is to be calculated from the last menstrual period (LMP) of the prospective mother. The first day of her last period is to be considered as the first day of her pregnancy.

But What if You Don’t Know the Date of your Last Period?

You can exactly calculate your pregnancy period provided you know the first date of your last period. However, if you don’t know about it or there is an irregular menstrual cycle, then figuring out the due date can be difficult. Also, the calculation cannot be accurate if the menstrual cycle differs in terms of length.

But bless the technology that the aforementioned issue can be overcome easily. With the first ultrasound, the due date of the baby can be figured out accurately, courtesy of the ‘Crown Rump Length’.

Pregnancy Trimester

Each pregnancy is divided into three trimesters. In each of the trimester, the body of the prospective mother, and that of the baby undergoes various changes.

  • Trimester 1 (13 Weeks + 6 Days): In this duration, the mother-to-be has to take various precautions. She also needs to adopt certain changes in her lifestyle.
  • Trimester 2 (14 Weeks-27 Weeks + 6 Days): The prospective mother gets accustomed to the changes that her body is experiencing. However, she may have to deal with issues such as morning sickness.
  • Trimester 3 (28 Weeks till Due Date): Fatigue, tiredness, and mood swings are common in this duration. Thus, to cope with these changes, the prospective mother needs more energy.

Pregnancy Period – Is it 36 Weeks or 40 Weeks?

Usually, the tenure is anywhere between 37 weeks to 42 weeks. But if the delivery takes place before 37 weeks, the baby could be premature. In such a case, the baby requires extra care and nourishment.

Have you Calculated the Exact Due Date?

The due date calculation is just an estimation. It is not necessary that the delivery will take place on the calculated. It is completely fine for the delivery to take place anywhere between 37 to 42 weeks.
