Biopics have been creating a buzz in the B-Industry since long. Be it Sanju, Dangal, Neerja, Soorma or Gold, the biopics bring into the limelight, the struggles, journey, and the achievements of our favourite personalities.
A majority of biopics that have released were based on sports people. But Rocketry: The Nambi Effect has a different story to tell. Starring Simran and R Madhavan, this upcoming biopic is based on veteran ISRO scientist – Nambi Narayanan.
Well, if you are wondering who is Nambi Narayanan and what the movie is all about, then these facts about the Indian scientist will surely clear the clouds.
A Senior Official at ISRO
Nambi Narayanan is an aerospace engineer. He headed the cryogenics division at ISRO. Nambi was the talk of the town when he was accused of espionage. He was also arrested owing to the charges and allegations on him.
His Academics and Achievements
Narayanan worked as a payload integrator at ISRO. To pursue M. Tech, he enrolled with the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram. With a NASA fellowship, he landed at the Princeton University in 1969. After completing his master program in chemical rocket propulsion in mere 10 months, he came back to India where he introduced liquid fuel rocket technology. He is also the man behind liquid propellant motors.
In the year 1994, Nambi Narayanan was accused of leaking secret defense information to Maldivian officers. Sources allege that the information Nambi leaked was related to flight test data. Following the allegation, Nambi was arrested and he spent 50 days in jail.
Nambi Declared Innocent
After two years of investigation and interrogation, CBI dismissed all charges on him. Furthermore, the charges were also debunked by the honourable Supreme Court in the year 1998.
Also, in the same year, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) passed strictures against the Kerala Government for tarnishing the image of a prominent scientist. It even ordered the state Government to pay Nambi 1 crore as compensation.
The Kerala Government, however, was asked to pay INR 10 lakhs by the Kerala High Court. But in November 2012, it was reported that the government did not comply with the order of the court and did not pay any compensation to him.
It’s the title of Nambi’s autobiography that released in October 2017. The book entails the details of ISRO espionage case and how he was framed in the entire conspiracy. The book also covers the incidents that took place in all these 24 years that Nambi took to clear his name.
Rocketry: The Nambi Effect
The movie was announced in October 2018 and its teaser was released the same month. Reportedly, during the shoot of the film, Madhavan had to sit in a chair for long hours for make-up in order to look exactly like the veteran scientist.
The movie will tentatively hit the silver screen in mid-2019.
