The hard-hitting wicket-keeper batsman from Afghanistan is indeed a delight to watch. Standing at 5′ 8″ and weighing around 90 kg, the man’s agility is somewhat uncharacteristic for his size. Nevertheless, the cricketer doesn’t cease to entertain us, and so we have jotted down 6 facts about him that cricket fans across the globe should know:
1) Mohammad Shahzad was born in a refugee camp
Shahzad’s family was a resident of the Nangrahar valley, near Jalalabad city of Afghanistan. However, owing to the soviet war the family had to seek shelter some place else. Thus, they had no choice but to live at a refugee camp near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass – close to the Pakistan-Afghan border in Peshawar. It was after the family had relocated to this camp that Mohammad Shahzad ‘came to life’.
2) Who once admired Moin Khan and Rashid Latif is now a huge fan of MS Dhoni!
Growing up as a refugee in Pakistan, Mohammad Shahzad dreamt of making it big in cricket. So he sough motivation from the likes of Moin Khan and Rashid Latif. However, now he seeks the same from the other side of the border from none other than India’s Mr. Cool MS Dhoni. Notably, the helicopter shot that Shahzad often plays is a mark of respect and gratitude for its originator!

In many cheeky interviews, the wicket-keeper batsman has accepted the fact that he is overweight. However, he has some valid claims that despite being overweight, his performance has always been up to the mark.
While in one interview, Shahzad admitted that he highly dislikes the yo-yo test, in the other he was quoted as saying, ““Jitna lamba chakka woh (Virat Kohli) maarte hain, main unse zyadaa maar saktaa hoon, par zaroorat kya hain unki tarah itni diet karne ki (I can hit bigger sixes than Kohli so why do I need to follow his diet?)”. 😛
