While some are lending credence to it, there are ‘some’ who are in grave trouble due to the same. Also, there are a few who have branded it as nothing but a marketing gimmick or a ‘publicity stunt tool.’ If you have failed to recognize what exactly we are talking about, then without further ado, let’s bring into limelight the #MeToo Campaign.
What came into existence almost a year ago in the west is now spreading its roots in India, courtesy of actress Tanushree Dutta, who accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of harassing her during the shoot of the 2009 film Horn ‘OK’ Pleassss.
Apart from Nana Patekar, there are several other prominent personalities and celebrities who seem to be facing teething troubles because of the #MeToo Movement. Here is the list of 9 such renowned names:
The Bheja Fry actor was accused of alleged sexual harassment by a journalist. She shared some excerpt from a telephonic interview in which the actor asked her if she was as sexy as she sounds. Rajat even apologized for the same in a tweet.
We know Vikas Bahl as the director and producer of many popular flicks including Queen, which touched the topic of women empowerment. Ironically, the Queen actress Kangana Ranaut accused the filmmaker of sexual misconduct. She mentioned that Vikas would often “bury his face in her neck and hold her really tight”.
Quite surprising, isn’t it? Well, the #Baabuji with ‘Sanskaari’ image has been accused of rape by Vinta Nanda, the writer-producer of the classic hit show “Tara”. The horrendous incident, as per her, took place almost 20 years back when she was moving back home after a party at Alok Nath’s place.
The renowned singer has been accused by a journalist- she mentioned that Kailash kept his hand on her thigh. Kailash, however, denied the allegations.
Chetan had to apologize to a woman on Facebook when she leaked the screenshot of a chat conversation, wherein the prolific writer was flirting with her. One of the bestselling authors of India, Chetan Bhagat confirmed the authenticity of the screenshots and even apologized to his wife for the conversation.
Those who perceive #MeToo as a movement ‘only against men’ need to read the accusation made by Kaneez Surka against Aditi Mittal. Kaneez accused Aditi of forcefully kissing her without her consent. Shockingly, the incident happened during a show in Mumbai. In her defense, Aditi apologized for her behavior and branded the entire act as a joke.
An Indian comedian, Utsav, recently plunged AIB (All India Bakch*d) into a slew of troubles. He has been accused of asking for nude pictures from underage girls, sending nudes to women, and ‘sexting’.
Owing to its association with Utsav, the entire AIB team had to face the heat of the movement. Tanmay Bhat, one of the founders of AIB, stepped away from the business while another co-founder, Gursimran Khamba took leave of absence. Both of them have been accused of mutely watching everything and not taking action against Utsav who was a threat to women safety at AIB’s workplace.
And here’s someone who has been recently touched by the #MeToo wave. Sajid has been accused of sexual harassment by three different women including a journalist. In the wake of the same, he stepped down as the director of his next project ‘Housefull 4’. Notably, the movie also stars Nana Patekar in an integral role.
A lyricist, standup comedian, and a writer, Varun has been accused of sexual harassment by an anonymous Twitter handle. Varun is also one of the writers of Sacred Games (a Netflix web series) and as per a prominent media house, Netflix is considering dropping his name for the 2nd season.
