8 Bollywood Movies that collected over 100 Crores in 2018

  • These days, crossing the 100-crore mark at the box-office has become passé. However, entering the ‘100 crore’ club still remains a goal for many and a far-fetched dream for some film-makers. In this slide show, we have jotted down 7 movies that have entered the so-called ‘elite club’ until August 2018.

  • 8. Padmaavat

After months of chaos, protests and vandalism, Padmaavat, initially titled Padmavati, finally released on 25 January 2018. Provided the amount of ‘free publicity’ the film got, it’s no wonder that the movie easily managed to cross INR 100 crore in just 4 days.

  • 7. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety

Director Luv Ranjan perhaps never fails to attract the youth to the box-office. This movie, again, like the two “Pyaar Ka Punchnaamas” was no exception. The theme of “Best-Friend vs Girl-Friend” went so well with the audiences that the film remained absolutely rock-steady for as many as 5 weeks!

  • 6. Raid

Ajay Devgn was perhaps tired of playing a cop in Rohit Shetty’s Singham; so this time he chose to play a senior tax inspector. No wonder if PM Modi was the happiest person on earth after seeing this film, which raked in over 100 crores despite facing tough competition from movies like Hichki, Baaghi 2, etc.

  • 5. Baaghi 2

Well, there were not many people who had fathomed that Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani starrer Baaghi 2 will receive such an overwhelming response at the ticket-window. ‘Baaghi 2’ which is a remake of the 2016 Telugu movie ‘Kshanam’, raked in over 150 crores in hard-cash!

  • 4. Raazi

The presence of Alia Bhatt in a movie usually means that it is sooner-or-later going to be a hit. I say ‘usually’ because Alia’s blunder – Shaandaar – haunts me to this day. Nonetheless, the young actress seems unstoppable as Raazi, a spy-thriller film, has become Alia Bhatt’s 3rd movie after ‘2 States’ and ‘Badrinath ki Dulhania’ to enter the elite 100-crore club.

  • 3. Race 3

If a commercially unsuccessful film by Salman Khan can reach the 100-crore mark easily, then think what enormous business his ‘hit’ movies will garner? Race 3 was criticized to death by audiences and critics alike, yet the movie managed to be the highest Hindi film opener of 2018. Furthermore, the movie collected over INR 300 crores worldwide. “Bhai” has certainly been blessed with a hand of gold!

  • 2. Sanju

Well, everyone knew that a biopic on Sanjay Dutt and that too by director Rajkumar Hirani was going to be a success. But, the person who has benefited the most from this movie is none other than Ranbir Kapoor. With back-to-back average to flop movies, Kjo’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Raju’s Sanju have come as ‘career-saving’ opportunities for the actor. Notably, Sanju is the “third highest grossing” Indian movie of all time, only behind Baahubali: The Conclusion’s Rs 510.99 crore and Dangal’s 387.38 crore.

  • 1. Gold

Actor Akshay Kumar has been riding high on success with 7 consecutive super hits, namely Pad Man (INR 78.22 crore), Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2 (INR 117 crore), Rustom (Rs 127.49 crore), Housefull 3 (Rs 109.14 crore), Airlift (Rs 128.1 crore) and now Gold, which has recently crossed the 100-crore mark.

Notably, Akshay was recently named the world’s 7th highest paid ‘entertainer’ by Forbes magazine.
