Gunday, Sultan, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, and Tiger Zinda Hai- all these Bollywood films wooed the audiences with their story, music, and even action. However, it was also the brilliant direction in these movies that kept the fans hooked to the screens. Well, we don’t have to pat the backs of different individuals for the all these flicks as they have been helmed by none other than Ali Abbas Zafar.
Here are some facts and things about Ali Abbas Zafar that you need to know straightaway:
A Big fan of Wrestling
Zafar is an admirer of wrestling. He believes that this sport has its roots in India both in terms of history as well as mythology. Perhaps his love for wrestling could be one of the reasons behind him directing Salman Khan starrer Sultan.
Started as an Assistant Director
Initially, Ali Abbas Zafar worked as an assistant director on various projects including those by prominent production houses like Yash Raj Films. His resume as an assistant director boasts of movies like Marigold, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Tashan, New York, Badmaash Company, etc. Later, he made his directorial and screenwriting debut with Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, which released in the year 2011.
But it was not all Glitter in the Beginning
It was in 2005 that Ali Abbas set his foot in the ‘Dream City’ of India. Since he had no ‘Godfather’ in the film-industry, avoiding initial struggle was inevitable. In fact, he faced setbacks for as many as 6 years after he arrived in Mumbai. Though he did not lose hope and continued to fight till he got his hands on ‘something’ he really wanted to pursue.
A DU Student
Zafar is a DU student and believes whatever he is today is because of his alma mater Kirori Mal College (KMC) and The Players (the drama club of the college). He is even thankful to the diversity of his campus and the multicultural nature of the University for shaping his vision.
